QBN Meeting on Quantum Systems – Cooling, Connecting & Controlling on November 18

The long awaited first physical QBN Meeting on Quantum Systems – Cooling, Connecting & Controlling, supported by Delft Circuits and kiutra, took place on November 18 in Munich at kiutra headquarters. With a fresh welcoming pretzel in the hand, participants took their seats and got ready for the first presentation.

Quantum technologies have potential to accelerate development of almost every industry, but such technologies are also very complex. Experts gathered in the meeting to discuss requirements for building effective quantum systems and finally a strong quantum industry.

First talk by Dr Sebastian Luber gave deeper insights in the biggest semiconductor producer in Germany and one of the 10 biggest worldwide – Infineon. Next, two of our members and great supporters of this meeting Dr Alexander Regnat from kiutra and Daan Kuitenbrouwer from Delft Circuits showed why cold is welcome in science in their talks ‘’kiutra – Explore the sub-Kelvin World’’ and ‘’Delft Circuits and cryogenic cable solutions’’ respectively.

Afterwards in first valuable networking session participants had a chance to discuss their impressions and upcoming projects both with new acquaintances and as well as the ones already known from past QBN meetings.

Industry pitches from most innovative start-ups – Qinu, QuantWare, QphoX, QDevil, Zurich Instruments and Qblox, member of QBN – introduced market-ready technologies like refrigerator systems, quantum control stacks and more.

Following pitches, attendees were invited to a kiutra lab visit, where they got a glimpse at the production space and unique L-type Rapid cooling system, which offers continuous cooling at 300 mK in less than three hours.

After return more quantum innovations were demonstrated at exhibition as a perfect basis for hands-on experiences and further discussions.

The last three talks, who were all held by members of QBN – ‘’Qubit control and cryo traps using MAGIC’’ by Dr Michael Johanning from eleQtron, ‘’Silicon nitride-based integrated quantum photonics’’ by Dr Jörn P. Epping from QuiX Quantum and ‘’Realizing ImpaQT – A project for stress testing interfaces of a supply chain for Transmon-based full-stack systems’’ by Dr Thorsten Last from Orange Quantum Systems – revealed how to cool, control and connect quantum systems opening a way to new ideas and breakthroughs.
